Educational Program

The Indigo Institute was started in 2010 as a program of Educational Praxis, Inc. Indigo Institute actively creates learning experiences for schools, universities, and community organizations to strengthen equitable learning and workplace environments by facing personal and historical challenges.

 

Core Beliefs

 

Understand the past to create a Just world.

Human relationships and community are fundamental to our pedagogy and curriculum.

Equity is central to everything we do.

Analysis of current paradigms and accepted practices have to be scrutinized, understood and changed.

We are all part of the solution.

People learn to confront their problems and build creative solutions. This process takes time, patience and courage. But we can do it! Equity benefits everyone.

Our Work

 

The Indigo Institute creates an individualized learning experience based on reflection and action. The Learning program can be organized either for one or several days. This process includes: Creating equitable learning and workplace environments by facing the personal and historical challenges. Recollecting practices in their workplaces, whether schools or elsewhere, participants will plan and constructing new strategies. Deepening their knowledge and relationships, team s and individuals will gain efficacy in building Just working and learning environments. Participants recall their practices to plan and implement/construct new strategies Teams and individuals will deepen their relationships, understanding and efficacy in building just working and learning environments.

 

Who We Are

 

Mikaela Simms

Mikaela holds a Masters in Social Justice. She has been an educator over ten years and is currently the diversity coordinator for Windham Southeast Supervisory Union.

 

Patrice Strifert

Patrice has worked in the field of education for the past 25 years, working in college student affairs positions including orientation, student activities, leadership development, co-curricular programming, judicial affairs, diversity and multicultural affairs, and residential life.

 

Janaki Natarajan

Janaki has been teaching for over seventeen years. She also directs Spark Teacher Education Institute and Bapagrama Educational Center, based in Bangalore, India. Both schools have a long tradition of social service and community organizing.
